UFL Established. 1994

League Secretary: Ball (non playing role)

Hon. UFL President: Flanagan

I hope that you have enjoyed the UFL this season. The aim was to have a bit of fantasy football fun with work colleagues and friends with minimum effort required for managers and without the need for  any technical football knowledge at the same time as raising funds for a good cause. Thank you for helping create our little Utopia.

Between matchdays 3 and 13, Juninho’s Boys and Ronnie’s Raiders had led the league table as first and second place and from the second week onwards this match looked to be a potential title decider until Richard managed to put his previous UFL experience to good use late in the season. In the final spot the ball competition of the UFL season, 4 managers entered but only Ronnie correctly identified the location of the ball. This gave Raiders a defensive boost but as their Premier League defence (Chelsea) did not concede any goals it did not really help them on this occasion. As both defences remained tight, it became a battle for goals and in the end a Roberto Firminho goal was enough to settle the result for a 1-0 Liverpool win and the same result for Juninho’s Boys.

In a dramatic match, which impacted on both ends of the table, Two Little Girls won 1 - 0 to secure a 2nd place finish for Zena and condemn Welshie's Wonders to bottom place. All is not as bad as it may seem for Laura - a small prize goes with this great honour. Well done to both managers.

Mother knows best!

Another two Clubs in the late season mix for 2nd or 3rd place honours were in action at New Model Army’s ground. This Ball family ‘Derby‘ match (mother v daughter) was won convincingly by Mandy. Unlike her mother who used her magic sponge to good effect earlier in the season, Sophie’s late season use of the magic sponge to double any goals scored by her attack, Tottenham, proved too late. Spurs could not score against Liverpool. This was made worse for Grangetown as their Premier League defence supplied by Norwich, were hammered 4-0. Mandy’s attacking threat was lethal and Chelsea’s three goals with only one conceded by Newcastle helped seal a 2 to -4 win.

United miss out in top three battle

Carlyall United have really risen to the challenge in a late season push for 2nd or 3rd place honours. Manager Janette used her magic sponge to good effect and this doubled her Premier League attack’s (Wolves) goals scored from 1 to 2 goals. She kept a clean sheet at the back to make sure that the pressure was on Caroline and her FC Trekers side which has been quite inconsistent this season and had lost their previous 2 matches. Janette was unlucky to find that Trekers had saved their best until last.  Four goals from Man United with only one goal conceded by Southampton’s defence gave Caroline a well-earned 3-2 win and the performance of the week award for beating a team which had been 10 places higher in the League before the match.

 Rules Reminder

Don't forget, if your Premier League attack is playing against your own premier league defence, your attacking score only will be included. e.g. no deduction for defensive goals conceded. Week 2’s matches see the first time this rule has been in play. The scores concerned will be highlighted in green to remind managers where this has happened. Over the course of the season, most teams will benefit from this rule and if not, managers will recall that the teams were all originally drawn from the hat to ensure a random element for fairness.

Scoring System

Simple scoring system = Each UFL Club has an attack (provided by a real life Premier League Team which they drew from the hat) and a defence (provided by a different allocated Premier League Team which they drew from the hat). The main Utopian League page provides more details on this.

So in each UFL match, a Club's weekly score is determined by the goals scored by their attack minus the goals conceded by their defence.  The first Prem League team under the UFL Club name is the attack and the second is the defence.

Any goals conceded by your defence are subtracted from your attack's goals scored to create your final UFL Club score in the match against your UFL opponent.

Appeals against scoring

If you ever think the League Secretary (and his little helper) may have made an error in scoring etc. please let me know and I'll review the result concerned. Thank you.
